2nd Story Candles is a small, creator owned and run business dedicated to combining the care and attention to detail of a hand-crafted candle with the luxurious, unique scent and vessel beauty of a high-end brand minus the price tag.

All candles and wax melts are made of the same proprietary, tested and proven blend of coconut wax - used to create a smooth, creamy finish, soy wax - used to provide a slower burn, and a little paraffin wax to harden the wax and give fantastic hot fragrance throw. This blend allows for consistent, safe, and quality candle performance, and burn times in excess of 35 hours for a 9oz candle and wax melt scent throws that last 48+ hours.

My name is Cat and I started making candles in my kitchen in December 2020. I fell in love with the creative process of combining different scents to create different experiences and putting them in wax to allow me to experience them over and over again. I discovered concrete vessels for candles and fell in love with the homey, chic, industrial decor look of them, but I couldn't figure out how to buy them in bulk cheaply enough to deliver my candle vision at the price-point that I wanted, so after much trial and error I began making them myself! So the entire finished product from the container to the wax to the fragrance blend is 100% hand-picked, created, and poured by yours truly which means that I put the attention, time, and care into something that I would want to use in my own home over and over again. And I am continuously working to make my process better, more consistent, efficient and less wasteful with a resulting higher quality product for a lower price point.

I started this business under the name "Cat's Candles". Not only was there already another business operating under this name, but also I just didn't like the name very much. I finally came up with the name "2nd Story Candles" and officially began operating under that name in August 2021. This name has a dual meaning. I currently make my candles on the landing area of the second floor of my house that I've converted into a small studio. I'm also a big fan of second chances, do-overs, re-writes, etc. I'm currently in a phase of my life that feels like a 2nd story or a re-write, which is scary, but very exciting. I am ultimately at peace knowing who is writing every detail of my entire story start to finish. I'm so excited to see what happens next!!

Please keep in mind before purchasing and after receiving your 2nd Story Candle product, that concrete vessels, being hand-made in molds, do vary from vessel to vessel in shade, marbling pattern, and sheen (gloss vs matte finish) depending on mold life and many other variables that cannot be perfectly controlled in a completely manual process. This is simply part of this products' charm: no two jars or candles are exactly the same including the small unavoidable imperfections such as small holes or bubbles in the cement jar's surface.
